Higgins, Paul

The Newton Kansan

Paul Edward Higgins, 90, of Omaha, Neb., died on Wednesday (Nov. 3, 2010) in Plattsmouth, Neb. He was born to Joseph and Fannie (Young) Higgins on June 27, 1920, in Newton. Paul served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a petty officer first class in World War II from 1942 to 1945. He was active in the European and South Pacific campaigns. He married Gladys Kliewer at Zion Lutheran Church in Newton in 1941. She survives in the home. Paul retired from Mutual of Omaha Insurance Co. He had dual membership in the Masonic Lodge No. 348 AF and AM of Omaha, and Newton Lodge No. 142 in Newton. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 2. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Higgins; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Leonard Kliment; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Cheri Higgins; sister–in-law, Iris Miller; one sister; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of friends. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery. The Rev. Dean VonStroh will preside. A memorial has been set up for the Paul Higgins Memorial Fund, c/o Miloma Lodge No. 348 AF and AM, in Omaha, Neb. Arrangements are by Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
