Obituary

Mary Jane Valerie Vargas, 49, of Newton, died Friday (Feb. 12, 2010) at the K.U. Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.

She was born on June 14, 1960, in Denver, the daughter of Frank and Bertha Vargas Marquardt. She graduated from high school in Colorado Springs. She lived in McPherson for a time period before moving to Newton in 2000.

Mary worked at the north Dillons store in the Chinese deli.

Mary was preceded in death by her sister, Valerie Lujan.

Survivors include two daughters, Veronica Ashley Mayo of Florida and Destiny Dawn Marquardt of Newton; her parents, Frank and Bertha Marquardt of Newton; three brothers, Johnny Lujan Jr. of Newton, Matthew Lujan and his wife, Loretta of Lamar, Colo., and Ronald Cruzen Jr. and his companion, Tina Martinez of McPherson; one sister, Sonia Marquardt and her companion, Steve Kempfert of Andover; nieces and nephews, Jonathan Lujan, Valerie Lujan, Matthew Lujan Jr., Mariah Lujan, Andre Lujan, Nathan Cruzen, Mercedez Cruzen and Lorenzo Cruzen.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 4p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 5 p.m. Thursday and a mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m., Friday, both at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton.

Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Newton.
