Perkins, Richard



Richard Lee Perkins, 68, of North Newton, died, Wednesday (July 7, 1999) at his residence.

He was born Sept. 12, 1930, in Newton to G.G. "Doc" and Mabel Alice (James) Perkins. He married Kathleen "Kay" Koerner July 22, 1951, in Newton. She survives of the home.
He was the founder of House of Glass, where he was owner from 1959 until 1971. He was employed at Hesston Corp., in quality control from 1971 to 1992 and was currently employed of Graber's Nursery. He was a member of Elks Club and First Presbyterian Church, both of Newton. He was a deacon and Sunday school office assistant of the church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Korean War era on the USS Sperry from 1951 to 1955. He was on the V-8 bowling league at Eastgate Lanes in Newton. He was a 1948 graduate of Newton High School. He enjoyed carpentry work, landscaping and lawn care.

Other survivors include: one son, Richleigh Perkins of Plano, Texas; one daughter, Kathlea Roberts of St. Joseph, Mo.; one brother, Dale Perkins of Newton; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. James Anderson officiating. Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Memorials have been established with Harvey County CASA, First Presbyterian Church or charity of choice in care of the funeral home.
