Nickel, Dorothy

The Winfield Courier

Dorothy I. Nickel, 75, of 1620 Cherry, Winfield, died Feb. 12, 1999, at Presbyterian Manor in Arkansas City.

Nickel was born April 21, 1923, in Newton, to Frank and Myrtle (Beckman) Stull. She was raised in Newton and graduated from Newton High School. She attended Bethel College and then taught in a rural school near Newton. During World War II she worked for the Santa Fe Railroad in Newton. On Dec. 26, 1943, she married B.A. Nickel in Newton. After the war, he completed his optometry work at the University of Chicago, and they moved to Winfield in 1949.

Nickel was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on numerous committees and boards. She was a past district officer of United Methodist Women and served as president of the local group several times. She was a 49-year member of P.E.O. and a charter member and past president of Chapter HK.

Survivors include her husband, B.A. Nickel, Winfield; a son, Bruce Nickel, Champaign, Ill.; a daughter, Betty Ann Dean, Maryville, Mo.; a brother, Jim Stull, Arkansas City; and four grandchildren.

Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home until 9 tonight and from 9 to service time Tuesday. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Memorials have been established with the First United Methodist Church and Chapter HK of P.E.O.
