Shacklett, Jesse

Jesse Shacklett died very suddenly at his home, No. 1100 Main Street, Sunday morning about 8:00 o'clock. He had just finished his breakfast and went out on the front porch steps to smoke a cigar. He fell over onto the ground and members of the family who saw him fall immediately rushed to his assistance. He was carried into the house and laid on the lounge, gasped a few times, and expired. Dr. John L. Grove, who was summoned in the meantime, arrived promptly, but Mr. Shacklett was dead before the doctor reached his side. The cause of his demise was given as heart failure, from an attack of which the deceased had suffered last winter.

Jesse Shacklett was born in Meade County, Kentucky, April 1, fifty-eight years ago. When about twenty eight years he was united in marriage to Miss Alice Powell. The family located in Newton in 1884, which place had been Mr. Shacklett's home practically ever since.

In addition to his widow, he leaves ten children, as follows: Mrs. Fred Brining, Oakland, Cal., Mrs. Walter Sanders, Chicago; Mrs. Ed Walthour, Newton, and Robert, Jack, Clifford, Jessie, Lillian, Alice and Glenn of Newton.

The funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the residence, Rev. J. J. Griffin of the Baptist Church officiating.
