Spinden, Edith



Edith Marie Spinden, 80, of Burns, died Friday (Nov. 26, 2010) at St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita.

She was born on Sept. 13, 1930, in Newton, the daughter of Steve and Frances (Golden) Langenegger. She graduated from Burns High School in 1948, and then attended Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, Neb. On June 18, 1950, Edith and Fred Spinden were united in marriage at Ebenezer United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 2000. Edith was a homemaker and a member of Ebenezer Church. She loved sewing, cooking and reading, especially her Bible, and most of all spending time with her family.

Those who survive are her children and their spouses, Sam and Becky Spinden of Burns; Mary Frances and Harold Busenitz of Whitewater; Helen and Doug Wiebe, also of Whitewater; and Shirley and Larry Brooks of Newton. Thirteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends also survive. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Langenegger, and a grandson, Daniel Boone Brooks.

Visitation with the family was Nov. 29 at Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. Services were held Nov. 30 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Burns, with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery. Memorials in Edith’s memory for Ebenezer Church may be left at Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado.
