Sigmund, Mike

Mike Sigmund, 63, died Friday (Nov. 26, 2010) at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita.
He was born May 23,1947, in Wichita to Lawrence M. and Mary Sigmund. On Feb. 28, 1981, he married Cynthia Wertin in Pittsburg. She survives of the home. Mike was a man of strong faith and a lifelong Catholic. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. Mike was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. He graduated from Pittsburg State University with a degree in Printing Technology. Mike loved printing and worked in the printing industry for years. He was a former salesman for Resnik Motors in Newton and the owner/operator of the former Mid-States Saw Mill. Mike had a passion for golf and enjoyed spending time on the golf course with his friends. He rode his Harley Davidson motorcycle as often as possible, loved muscle cars, fishing, boating, gardening and woodworking. Mike read a lot, especially western novels, often reading a book a week. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his loving wife, family and many friends.
He also is survived by his mother, Mary Sigmund of Deer Isle, Maine, and sister, Anne Sigmund of Deer Isle. He is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence M. Sigmund.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. The family will receive friends in the church hall following the Rosary. Friends may call at Petersen Funeral Home from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton with the Rev. Ruben Ortiz, celebrant. Memorials may be made to the Lord’s Diner or Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
