Albert H. Faris died on Sunday (Dec. 12, 2010) at Kidron Bethel Health Care in North Newton.

He was born on Sept. 22, 1923, in Stockton, to Loyal and Edith (Turner) Faris. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Wanda Fay Kizer on Aug. 24, 1947, in Cedar. They recently celebrated 63 years of marriage. They were inseparable and delighted in their children and their interests and activities. She survives of the home.
Albert was a farmer and enjoyed working the land. When he retired from farming, he did not really “retire.” For many years, he served as a custodian for Hesston High School. He enjoyed his responsibilities there immensely along with interacting with the kids. When he could no longer physically handle his duties at the school, he took on a janitorial position at Hesston United Methodist Church. He also worked at PepsiCo and Hesston Corp.

He was a member of First Christian Church and served as a deacon and elder of Emeritus. His main interest was his children. He and Wanda felt very blessed with their children. Family vacations were times when the family packed up the stationwagon and went to Colorado. Even though he did not play golf, he enjoyed the sport. He also enjoyed all Kansas sports, especially K.U. athletics, the Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs.

He also is survived by his sons, Loyal Faris and wife, Lola, Forrest Lee Faris and his wife, Ginger, Thomas Joe Faris and Debra Jones-Faris, Gary Faris and wife, Sharon, and John Jay Faris; daughters, Starla Sue Stewart and husband, Paul, Sheila Ann Duncan and husband, Bob, and Susan May Jones and fiancé, Jason Reardon; brother, Robert Faris; 21 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Loyal and Edith Faris; son, Roy Ray Faris; granddaughter, Christina Louis Faris; and sister, Marjorie Kelly.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday (Dec 14) with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday (Dec 15) at First Christian Church in Newton. Pastor Gary Bell will officiate. A committal service will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. A memorial has been set up for First Christian Church in care of Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N. Main, Newton, KS 67114.
