Wait, Hazel
Hazel Irene Wait was born on Nov. 3, 1916, and passed away on Thursday (Dec. 9, 2010) at Kansas Christian Home.
She was born in Gaylord to Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Wait. Hazel attended Round Hill Rural School in Smith County and Gaylord Rural High School. Hazel attended Fort Hays State Teachers College and graduated from Phillips University in Enid, Okla., earning a bachelor of arts degree. She was initiated into Alpha Pi Chapter, Kappa Delta Pi on May 14, 1965. She earned her master of arts degree from Scarritt College for Christian Workers. Hazel won an educational specialist degree from Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn. She was ordained on Aug. 5, 1951, at Cedar Christian Church in Cedar. During her years of ministry, Hazel served as a minister in Christian education in several churches including Pratt and Downey Avenue Christian Church in Indianapolis. She was commissioned as a missionary on June 15, 1952. She served as a missionary in India from 1952 until 1972. During her time on the mission field, she served in Woodstock School, Mussoorie, U.P., India, which included the Dalai Lama and his entourage as they were in transition leaving Tibet.
The memorial service for Hazel Wait will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday (December 21) at Kansas Christian Home. Donations will be accepted for the Legacy of John at Kansas Christian Home. Memorials may be left to the Legacy of John in care of Kansas Christian Home or at the funeral home.
