Chamberlain, Belva

The Newton Kansan

Belva A. Chamberlain, 69, died on Tuesday (Dec. 28, 2010) at Newton Medical Center.

She was born to Dave and Jennie (Warren) Jetton on March 17, 1941, in Knox County, Texas. On Dec. 23, 1958, she married Gaylon C. Chamberlain in Goree, Texas, and he survives of the home. She attended Goree schools, graduating in 1959. She and Gaylon moved to Kansas in 1971 from Texas. Belva was employed in Newton as a nurse aide and many years as a dental receptionist with Drs. Gregg and Bette and most recently with Dr. Pam McCullough’s dental offices, both in Newton. On Dec. 23, Belva celebrated her retirement open house at the office of Dr. McCullough and her 52nd wedding anniversary with her husband and all her children and grandchildren.

She enjoyed crafts, sewing and volunteering for programs assisting others. She was dedicated to her family and their well being. Belva was a long-time active member of Trinity Heights United Methodist Church and served as the United Methodist Women treasurer and on several other church committees. She also was a member of the Red Hat Society, which she enjoyed very much. Belva greatly enjoyed spending time with her loving family and many friends.

She also is survived by her daughter, Dana and her husband Dan Barnard of Newton; son, Scott and his wife Korri of Lawrence; sister, Donna Sue Bowden of Alpine, Texas; brother, Garon Jetton of Wichita Falls, Texas; grandchildren, Rebecka, Darian and Cooper Chamberlain of Lawrence, Joshua and his wife Brady Barnard of Park City, Jennie and her husband Eric Skibbe of Olathe, and Jamie Barnard of Manhattan; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jimmie Joe Jetton.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home, with the family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton, with the Rev. Cheryl Jefferson Bell presiding. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Goree Cemetery in Goree, Texas. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Heights United Methodist Church Respite Care in care of Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
