Obituary

Norine E. Younger, 100, died on Tuesday (Dec. 28, 2010) at Life Care Center in Wichita.

She was born on April 22, 1910, in Antonino to Fredrick and Amelia Rupp. She married Edward B. Younger on Aug. 12, 1930, in Hays, and he preceded her in death. Norine was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newton, where she was a member of the Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella. She was a coordinator for Meals on Wheels, a clerk at the former Moore’s IGA, a cook at St. Mary’s Catholic School and the Village Café. Prior to her move to the Life Care Center in Wichita, she lived at Cornerstone at Broadmoor where she enjoyed her time and made many friends. Norine enjoyed reading, sewing and quilting. She also enjoyed gardening and tending flowers. Family was very important to Norine, and she looked forward to spending time with her loving family and many friends.

She is survived by her two sons, LeRoy and Ann Marie Younger of Franklin, and Jerry and Pat Younger of Kechi; three daughters, Mary Kellogg of Newton, Patricia Altenhofen of Wichita, and Norma and Sy Wasinger of Marienthal. She had 12 grandchildren, nine stepgrandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 10 great-stepgrandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-stepgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Tony, Al, Adam, Celly, Gabe and Connie Rupp; and two sisters, Monica Fisher and Lidwina Klause.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. The family will greet friends following the Rosary. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newton followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Newton. Memorials are suggested to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newton.
