Obituary

Dale John Fundenberger, 88, died on Friday (Dec. 31, 2010) at Newton Medical Center.

Dale was born on Nov. 30, 1922, in Lyons to Roy and Mabel (Ferguson) Fundenberger. He moved to Sedgwick when he was 3 years old. On March 26, 1948, he married Fernetta Dodge at the Children’s Home (Youthville) in Newton. Dale was a farmer and a truck mechanic at the Sante Fe Trail and Transportation Company.

He is survived by wife, Fernetta of Moundridge; daughter, Rita and Pat Kirkpatrick of Newton; son, Leon Fundenberger of Topeka; son, James David Fundenberger of Aurora, Colo.; granddaughters, Kristine and Darren Jenkins of Olathe, and Brandie Ross of Galva; grandsons, Karl Fundenberger of Topeka, Daniel, Nathan and Eric Fundenberger of Denver; great-granddaughters, Brianna Huser and Jillian Ross-Mason of Galva; and sister, Margaret Swindler of Salina. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Glenn Fundenberger; and sisters, Violet Koehn and Virginia Hershberger.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday (Jan. 3, 2011) at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton with family present to greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 4) at the Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. There will be a private family burial at Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Memorial Home of Moundridge in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
