Obituary

Dorothy “Dottie” Schmidt, 96, of North Newton, passed away on Sunday (Jan. 9, 2011) at Kidron Bethel Village.

Dorothy was born on Nov. 10, 1914, in Goessel, the daughter of Peter and Agnetha (Reimer) Frey. A retired J.C. Penney’s clerk, Dottie lived most of her adult life on the family farm in northern Harvey County before moving to North Newton.

She is survived by her children, Donavon (Deloris) Schmidt, Karen (Robert) Unrau, Geneva Reimer, Vera (James) Wuertz and Rollin (Brenda) Schmidt; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, plus a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold H. Schmidt; daughter, Eileen Meyer; granddaughter, Megan Unrau; and grandson, Trevor Wuertz.

Viewing will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 11) at Peterson Funeral Home in Newton, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 12)in the Tabor Mennonite Church Cemetery in rural Newton, with a celebration of life service at 10:30 a.m. at Tabor Mennonite Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts may be made to the Tabor Mennonite Church in care of Peterson Funeral Home in Newton.
