Phenneger, Howard

Howard J. Phenneger Jr., 81, died on Tuesday (Jan. 11, 2011) at Wesley Medical Center.
Howard was born on June 13, 1929, to Howard J. Phenneger Sr. and Dolly (Hayden) Phenneger in LaPlata, Mo. Howard served in the Marine Corps as a radio operator during the Korean War. Howard also served for 18 years as a detective with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department. Howard loved anything that was fun. He flew paraplanes and ultralights. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He loved to dance, and he most especially loved his grandkids.
Howard is survived by sons, Kevan and Jeanie Phenneger of Newton and Daniel Phenneger of Sedgwick; daughter, Cindi and Carman Clark of Newton; sister, Beverly Greason of Sedgwick; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Jeremy Chard.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday (Jan. 14) at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton with family present to greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 15) at the Sedgwick Christian Church with the Rev. Kim Beckwith officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care of Kansas or to the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office Benefit Fund in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
