Robert H. Siemens, 81, farmer, dairyman and registered Holstein breeder, died on Friday (Jan. 14, 2011) at his residence.
He was born on June 12, 1929, in Turpin, Okla., to Peter H. and Katie (Warkentin) Siemens. A U.S. Army veteran, he also was a member and former trustee of First Mennonite Church in Halstead. He also was a member of the Kansas Holstein Association, National Holstein Association and KS D.H.I.A. He was a founding member of Harvey County Milk Haulers and formerly served on the boards of Lakin Township, USD 440 schools, Harvey County Fair, Harvey County Extension Council, Harvey County D.H.I.A., A.M.P.I. and Halstead Farmers Co-Op.
On Oct. 22, 1952, he married Lorraine P. Regier in Buhler. She survives of Halstead. Other survivors include son, David (Lu) Siemens of Halstead; daughters, Cindy Siemens of Halstead and Julie (Rick) Lee of Wichita; brother, James (Patricia) Siemens of Hutchinson; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Melaynee Bliss; brother, John Siemens; and sisters, Anna Marie Ratzlaff Ruyle, Florence Becker, Dorothy Brandt and Katherine Lowe.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Committal service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Restlawn Gardens of Memory in Newton.
A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Mennonite Church in Halstead, with Pastor Cleo Koop officiating. Memorials may be given to First Mennonite Church or Kansas Dairy Association c/o Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead.
