Smith, Charles Wesley

Evening-Kansan Republican

The passing of our old friend and neighbor, C.W. Smith, familiarly called Wes Smith, was quite a shock to his friends and relatives. Wes was one of the early settlers of this township, coming here as a lad in his teens from New Boston, Ill., in August, 1871 along with the late S. H. [Simon Hewitt] Prouty and family who took him to raise. He was honest and upright in all his dealings and was respected by his neighbors and acquaintances for his kind and genial qualities. He was married to Miss Nancy Johnson and they reared a fine family of four girls and three boys, all married except Ray who still lives with his mother and tends the farm. We extend our sincere sympathies to the bereaved family.
