Mrs Nancy Smith
Mrs. Nancy Smith, widow of the late Charles W. Smith, died Monday evening at six o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. C. Webb, in Chanute. The family home was at 626 East Ninth street in Newton, but for the past nine months Mrs. Smith had been living with her daughter in Chanute. She was past 88 years of age.
A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Johnson, Mrs. Smith was born August 4, 1859 in Gridley, Ill., and was married here on May 27, 1876. Her husband died a number of years ago.
Besides Mrs. Webb, Mrs. Smith is survived by three other daughters, Mrs. Nellie Rutledge of Arlington, Kans., Mrs. J. M. Nebergall of Newton, Mrs. Harry Rogers of Kansas City, Mo., and two sons, Ray Smith of Ulysses, Kans., and Earl Smith of Minneapolis, Minn.
She also leaves 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday morning January 2, at ten-thirty at the Draper Funeral Home. Rev. A. R. Poe, pastor of the Methodist church at Hesston, will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
