Hawkey, Delbert
Delbert L. Hawkey, 73, died Saturday (Feb. 1, 2003) at Newton Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 16, 1929, to Willard H. and Mary Ann (Hawkey) Magnison in Newton. They preceded him in death. He married Darlene F. Schertz Oct. 9, 1955, in Newton. She preceded him in death June 9, 1991.
He was a member of Highland Trinity United Church of Christ in rural Newton. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Newton. He was a retired carpenter working for Bob Sauerwein Construction out of Newton. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed woodworking and crafts and showing and selling his crafts and creations at local crafts shows.
Survivors include: a son, Steve Hawkey of Hesston; a daughter, Julie A. Hawkey of Grainfield; and two brothers, Dale Hawkey and Gene Hawkey, both of Newton.
Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Highland Trinity United Church of Christ with Pastor Sheree Boman officiating.
Burial will be in Hesston City Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with HIghland Trinity United Church of Christ and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Building Fund, both in care of the funeral home.
