Llamas, Mary
The Newton Kansan
Mary A. Llamas, “Tootsie,” 74, died on Sunday (Jan. 16, 2011) at Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis in Wichita.
She was born on Nov. 21, 1936, in Newton, the daughter of Aurora Sauceda.
On Oct. 16, 1954, she married Capt. Jose Llamas in Newton. He preceded her in death. Mary attended St. Francis School of Nursing in Wichita, earning her registered nursing degree. She worked for many years as a registered nurse at St. Francis, before she retired. Mary enjoyed writing poetry, jazz music, gardening and fishing, and she was a voracious reader.
Survivors include two sons, Stephen Llamas (Nicky) of Wichita and Richard Llamas of Wichita; two daughters, Patricia Brock (Larry) of Linwood and Elizabeth Nicholson of Wichita; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death was a brother, Nick Sauceda.
Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with Father Juan Garza. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Newton. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans in care of the funeral home at 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.
