Huffman, Claude
Claude R. Huffman, 96, died Wednesday (Dec. 15,2004) at Halstead Health and Rehabiltation.
He was born Aug 22, 1908, to Frank and Ellen (Trout) Huffman in Rosedale, Ind. They preceded him in death. He married Marguerite Anderson April 5, 1975. She preceded him in death Dec. 8, 2002.
He was raised in Indiana and attended public schools. He worked in the coal mines of Indiana for several years following school. Claude enlisted in the United States Army and served his tour of duty during World War II. After returning from the service he worked for the Kansas State Department of Transportation Highway Maintenance. He retired after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Christian Church in Newton. He was instrumental in reconstucting the building where the church is now located. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the Eagles Lodge, both of Newton. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and also loved gardening. He was proud of his country and his service.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews and a stepson. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Restlawn Gardens of Memory.
