Nina G. Roupp, 89, died on Thursday (Jan. 27, 2011) at Newton Medical Center after a short illness.
She was born on Jan. 16, 1922, in Crystal Springs to Christian Lee and Ida (Kauffman) Naffziger. Her childhood was spent on the family farm. She graduated from Harper High School and attended Hesston College. On Nov. 6, 1942, she married Weldon Roupp of Hesston at Crystal Springs Mennonite Church. They farmed near Crystal Springs until 1953 when they moved to Oregon. After the death of her husband of 42 years in 1984 and living in Oregon almost 50 years, she moved back to Kansas in 2003 to be closer to her daughters. She celebrated her 89th birthday on Jan. 16.
She is survived by her sister, Naomi Weaver of Wichita; two daughters and two sons, Elaine and husband, James Harms of Newton, Kenneth and wife, Barbara of Portland Ore., Mary and husband, Lonny Regier of North Newton and Ronald of Canby, Ore.; four grandchildren, Sara and Skip Austin of Ocala, Fla., Tim and Alyssa Roupp of Gresham, Ore., Kim and Corey Reeves of Wamego and Scott Regier of Denver; six great-grandchildren, Chris and Josh Austin, Tyson and Katelyn Roupp and Cody and Carter Reeves. Preceding her in death was her husband, Weldon; her parents, Christian Lee and Ida Naffziger; brother, Robert and sister-in-law, Kathryn Naffziger; brother-in-law, Junior Weaver; and nephew, Steven Naffziger.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethel College Mennonite Church, 2600 College Ave., in North Newton. Cremation has taken place. Final burial will be next to her husband of 42 years in the Zion Mennonite Church Cemetery in Hubbard, Ore. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Kidron Bethel Villas or Mennonite Central Committee, c/o Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.
