MOUNDRIDGE — >Doris June Rees, 90, passed away Monday (May 12, 2008) at Memorial Home in Moundridge.

Doris was born June 20, 1917. She was the eldest daughter of the four children of Ray and Elsie (Cain) Fife of rural Newton.

She married Frank G. Rees on July 6, 1935, in Newton, and they raised three children. He preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 1981.

Doris was retired from Dillons in Newton, where she worked in the meat department for many years. Frank, Doris and the family liked to travel and camp out. She liked to work in her yard and flower garden in her spare time.

Doris was the longest active member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton, singing in the choir and participating in the Deborah Circle. She also was active in the Social Order of the Beauceant in the Masonic Temple and the Pansy Club. She liked serving with the VFW No. 971 and the American Legion organizations in Newton, helping prepare for dinners and dances.

Survivors include sons, Raymond and wife, Janice, of Wichita, and Ralph of Newton; daughter, Susan Gatz of rural Newton; nine grandchildren, Bryan Gillmore and wife, Cheryl, of Virginia, Bret Gillmore and wife, Marla, of McPherson County, Brad Gillmore and wife, Amy, of Mississippi, Jacque Woley and husband, Mike, of Harvey County, Amy Puckett of Newton, Adam Rees of Newton, Alan Rees and wife, Amy, in the Air Force, and Annalaura Rees in Wichita; 11 great-grandchildren; and four nieces and nephews in California.

She also was preceded in death by sisters, Lois E. Harris and Pauline Boget in California; and brother, Ralph Elmer Fife on Dec. 7, 1941, on the USS Arizona.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with family receiving friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Nathan Morgan of the church officiating.

Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or Memorial Home in care of the funeral home.
