Jesse Curtis Smith was born in Nevada, Missouri, November 9, 1890 and departed this life January 19, 1922, at his home 511 West Second street, Newton, Kansas, at the age of 31 years, 2 months and 10 days. He was the third member of his family to pass away, his mother and father preceded him to the world beyond.
On June 21, 1916, Mr. Smith was united in marriage to Miss Dollie Shanks. To this union was born one daughter, Viola Jessie, age3.
For the last five years the deceased had been employed in the car department of the Santa Fe railroad in Newton and at that place was held in high esteem by his associates.
Mr. Smith leaves to mourn his untimely death, his wife and daughter, five sisters, Mrs. Sam Woulfe of Wichita, Mrs. L.C. Laarimer and Mrs. Sherman of Kansas City, Missouri, Mrs. L. C. Howell of Sedgwick and Mrs. Arthur Utz of Newton and one brother Carl Smith of Newton, besides a host of friends, who will cherish his memory.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, January 21 at the Sprinker Chapel in Newton, conducted by Rev. J. R. Caffyn. Interment took place in the
