Obituary

Mrs. Mary Werner, native of Harvey county and widow of Charles Werner, died at 1;45 this morning at Bethel Deaconess hospital. She was removed to the hospital Wednesday evening after becoming ill suddenly.
A pioneer resident in this section of Kansas, Mrs. Werner was born August 26, 1873 [court records show she was born August 26, 1875] near Alta Mills, when Harvey county was sparsely settled. She was past 77 years of age. Her parents, Spencer and Jane Filbeck Werner, died when she was a baby,only four months old.
Mr. and Mrs. Werner were married August 24, 1891 in Harvey county and lived on a farm west of Hesston, in Garden township, prior to moving to Newton 10 years ago. Mr. Werner's death occured Feb. 27, 1948. The home is at 407 West Fifth street.
Mrs. Werner was a member of the Evangelical Brethern church.
The following children survive:Harvey, Lester, Ethel, Chester, Alvertia and Fay.
