The Newton Kansan, Saturday, March 7, 1952
Mrs. Jeanne Gould, 27, a native of Newton and wife of James G. Gould, died suddenly Friday afternoon at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alden E. Branine, 1609 Hillcrest Road.
Mrs. Gould, who had been in ill health for sometime, was found dead about 2 p.m. by members of the family in the bathroom, where she had gone a short time previously with the intention of washing her hair.
Exertion and shock resulting from later discovered to be a cancerous condition resulted in her death, physicians said.
A post mortem examination revealed that Mrs. Gould was afflicted with cancer of the right adrenal gland. She had recently been hospitalized at Covina, Calif., and returned Tuesday night from Rochester, Minn., where she had undergone a checkup at the Mayo clinic.
Her condition however had not been diagnosed as serious and members of the family she felt unusually good and in happy spirits during the noon hour yesterday.
The post mortem also disclosed there was no water in her lungs, eliminating a possibility that she had drowned. She was found in the bathtub.
Mr. and Mrs. Gould had been living with her parents and were planing to move within a short time to their new home, now nearing completion.
