John Louis Greer, 89, a retired grocer and pioneer Newton resident, died suddenly Tuesday afternoon at his home 431 E. 2nd St.

Born Nov. 2, 1864 in Industry, Ill., Mr. Greer was the son of Alfred W. and Anne Greer, and had lived here for 50 years. He operated a grocery for several years and also was engaged in sales work before he retired.

He was married Nov. 3, 1926 at Hutchinson to Nellie Sawyer, who survives.

In addition to his widow, survivors include two sons, Francis and Harold, both of St. Louis, Mo., a stepdaughter, Mrs. Roy Adams of Newton; two brothers, Albert R. and Will W., living in Illinois.
