Carrie Hall Suicide

Newton's second suicidal attempt in three days claimed the life Tuesday of Mrs. Carrie Adella Hall

Newton's second suicidal attempt in three days claimed the life Tuesday of Mrs. Carrie Adella Hall, 71, who was found dead at her home, 423 west Third street, a victim of hanging, authorities said.

The tragedy occurred in mid afternoon while her husband, H. B. Hall, a retired Santa Fe conductor, was away from home. He told police he left shortly before 2 o'clock to go to town and returned less than an hour later to find the house locked.

He used a key to enter the front door and then discovered the door leading to the upstairs locked. He opened the door with a screw driver and found his wife in the stairway.

Officers said one end of the rope had been run through the stairway banister and tied to a bed, and the other end was tied in a slip knot around Mrs. Hall's neck.

Members of the family told Dr. M. C. Martin, coroner, that Mrs. Hall had been in ill health for several years, a factor that apparently prompted her to take her own life, investigating officers said.
