Samuel P. hand, a resident of Newton for nearly half a century, and a retired Santa Fe machinist helper, died Tuesday night at 11:30 at the Bethel Deaconess hospital. Mr. Hand, whose home for years had been at 604 West Sixth street, had the misfortune to fall in his home Thursday of last week, fracturing one of his hips. He was taken to the hospital at once, but the shock and subsequent complications brought his life to a close.

He was born in Virginia Sept. 1, 1854 and was 92 years, four months and six days old. He leaves the following children: Albert Hand, now in the merchant marine, Mrs. Claude Linnens and R. S. (Bob) Hand, of Newton and Dewey Hand of Wichita.
