Ellen J. "Linnens" DuFriend, 86, 807 E. Seventh, died Friday (June 23, 2000) at her residence in Newton.
She was born April 10, 1914, in Newton to Claude Minor and Wilsie Clemintine (Hand) Linnens. She married James Max DuFriend July 4, 1936, at her parents home in Newton. He survives of the home.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Newton. She attended Lincoln Grade School and graduated from Newton High School in 1932. She also attended Bethel College in North Newton.
Other survivors include: three daughters, Jennifer Lynn Hammett of Newton, Janell Lee Walsh of Paulsbo, Wash., and Denise Linette Nail of Kansas City; three sons, Dallas Linnens DuFriend of Overland Park, David Martin DuFriend of Atascadero, Calif., and James Max DuFriend Jr. of California; one brother, Jack Otis Linnens of Newport, R.I.; one sister, Pauline Minor Thomas of Newton; 22 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Ron Rich of Hesston United Methodist Church and Phil Chastain officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call until 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established with the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Central Homecare and Hospice in care of the funeral home
