Meetz, Henry

Henry August Meetz, on of Newton's oldest citizens, died this morning at the age of 99 at his home, 507 E. 3rd. St. He had been in failing health for sometime.
Born Aug. 1, 1855 in Seiversdord, Germany, Mr. Meetz would have been 100 next August. He came to the United States Feb. 8, 1884 and farmed in harvey County for many years. he had resided in Newton the past 16 years.
Mr. Meetz was married here Jan. 1, 1887 to Sophie Grapengater, who survives. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church for 67 years.
Survivors include his widow; three daughters, Mrs. William (Elizabeth) Heine of Walton, Mrs. Albert (Meta) Benfer of Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. George (Clara) Scherer of Newton; and three sons, Carl and Harry of Newton and Albert of Walton; an adopted daughter Mrs. Charles (Alberta) Purcull of Dallas; a brother, Fred, living in Germany.
