Obituary

Marven Jackson Curteman Jr., 73, former switchman for the AT&SF Railroad for 40 years, died Sunday (Dec. 13, 1998) at his resident.

He was born May 7, 1925, in Pittsburg to Marven Jackson Sr. and Bessie (White) Curteman. He married Pauline M. Brown Aug. 14, 1955, in Newton. She survives of Newton.

He was a member of First Christian Church where he served at a deacon and the Chi Cho Rho for five years. He was on the Special Police Reserve for five years. He also was a member of the UTU and worked with the Meals on Wheels program.

He was a graduate of Pittsburg High School, attended Kansas State Teachers College which is now Pittsburg State University. He enjoyed working with stain glass, wood working and macrame.

He served in World War II as a sergeant with the 13th tactical reconnaissance squadron in the Army Air Force. He also serviced in Po Valley, Rineland and Central Europe where he received three bronze stars.

Other survivors include: one son, Gary C. Curteman of Branson, Mo.; two daughters, Gail Curteman Cole of Sanger, Calif., and Sherry Curteman-Sharp of Newton; one sister, Helen Ferguson of Tulsa, Okla.; step-mother, Dorothy Curteman of Tulsa, Okla.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were today at First Christian Church with the Rev. MyCherie Zimmerman officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with Kansas Christian Home Fellowship of John in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
