Unruh, Robert

The Newton Kansan

The world lost a very special person with the passing of Robert A. Unruh on Jan. 16, 2011. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Bob was born on March 13, 1923, in Newton, the eldest of four children of Katharine Wiens and Arthur Dirks Unruh, all of whom predeceased him. He was an oil and gas accountant and retired in 1985, although he enjoyed several part-time jobs after retirement. He was a member of Mile Hi Church of Religious Science. In 1980, Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ann Maddeford, whom he married in 1945. They had one son, Robert Bruce Unruh, who survives and in whom Bob took great pride. In 1985, Bob remarried, and he is survived by his beloved wife, Dottie. They enjoyed a wonderful life together which included worldwide travel. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in April 2010. Other survivors include loving stepdaughter, Lisa Chap’pel; a stepson, Sam Flohr; a granddaughter, Rosanna Knoblock Kotecki (Chris); and two great-grandchildren, Victoria Rose and Tyler Remington Kotecki. He also is survived by several nieces and nephews and their families. Bob touched the lives of so many and was deeply loved and admired by all who knew him. He was a true gentleman who will be remembered for his integrity and kindness, and he will be sorely missed. His body was cremated; a celebration of his life will be at 11 a.m. May 21 at Mile Hi Church in Lakewood, Colo. Bob’s family would like to thank the staff members of the Hospice of St. John, as well as Dr. Ivan Casserly, for the compassionate care given Bob and our family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Hospice of St. John, 1320 Everett Court, Lakewood, CO 80215. All Veterans Funeral and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.
