David 'Butch' 'Beaver' Gibbens
David "Butch" "Beaver" Gibbens, 54, of Newton, employee for city of Newton, died Sunday (Dec. 12, 1999) at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus.
He was born March 9, 1945, in Newton to Phillip William Gibbens Sr. and Pearl Vidella (Leech) Gibbens.
He was a 1963 graduate of Newton High School.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign War Post 971 in Newton.
He enjoyed boating and fishing.
Survivors include: two brothers, Phillip William Gibbens Jr. of Olathe and James Gibbens of Valley Center; and two sisters, Naomi Drake of Newton and Ruth Huebert of Derby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, William Earl Gibbens and Ralph Eugene Gibbens.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton with the Rev. C. Kent Rogers from Salem United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established with American Cancer Society or American Lung Association in care of the funeral home.
