Grant, Lucille

The Newton Kansan

Lucille Grant, 81, of Newton, died Monday (Dec. 13, 1999) in Amarillo, Texas.

She was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Ford County to Hugh Oscar and Alpha Pearl (Sinclair) Bartlett. She married John H. Grant May 17, 1941, in Dodge City. He preceded her in death Oct. 31, 1992. She was head cashier, credit manager and bookkeeper for Montgomery Ward, where she worked for 20 years. She also was employed at Holstine Motors for 10 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton and Silver Top No. 1 mixed bowling league of Eastgate Lanes, where she was secretary. She enjoyed crocheting, making table cloths, doilies, bedspreads and afghans.

Survivors include: two sons, Jon Howard Grant of Amarillo, Texas, and Hugh William "Bill" Grant of Newton; two daughters, Dennes R. "Dennie" Gronau of Newton and Leslie Fay Jessee of Statesville, N.C.; one brother, "Bud" D.A. Bartlett of Fowler; one sister, Betty Rae Norton of Minneola; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by two infant brothers.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home with Father Floyd McKinney from Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established with Central Homecare and Hospice in care of the funeral home.
