John Rudolph (Rudy) Peterson
HESSTON -- John Rudolph (Rudy) Peterson, 88, of Hesston, formerly of Manhattan, died Thursday (Dec. 16, 1999) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
He was born July 28, 1911, in Walsburg to John Victor and Hilma (Bellman) Peterson. He married Lois Springer March 2, 1937. She preceded him in death Oct. 2, 1996.
He farmed in Walsburg area and had moved to Manhattan in 1962, where he worked as a farmer at Kansas State University, retiring in 1976. He moved to Schowalter Villa in Hesston in 1996.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Manhattan and former member of Walsburg Lutheran Church in Leonardville.
Survivors include: two sons, Gary V. Peterson of Oak Island, N.C., and Lowell R. Peterson of Hesston; one sister, Inez Arents of Cheney; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Walsburg Lutheran Church, northeast of Leonardville with the Rev. Jeffery L. Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in the Walsburg Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley.
Memorials have been established with Walsburg Lutheran Church or First Lutheran Church in Manhattan in care of Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home, 303 S. Broadway, Riley KS 66531.
