L. Estella Perry
L. Estella Perry, 87, died today (Oct. 22, 2003) at Newton Presbyterian Manor.
She was born Dec. 17, 1915, to Luther Bartley and Bertha Jane (Parker) McGee in Ardmore, Okla. They preceded her in death. She married Clarence Elvis Perry in 1933 in Enid, Okla.. He preceded her in death in 1970.
She spent most of her school years between Newton and Enid. In 1939, she and her husband moved to Newton and later bought and operated the Santa Fe Cafe until bad health caused them to close. For the next 14 years she was an Avon representative. Since suffering a broken hip in 2001, she had resided in nursing homes in Wichita and Newton. She lived at Newton Presbyterian Manor since July of 2002. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Newton. She was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge of Newton.
Survivors include: two daughters, Sandra Walton and husband Don of Wichita and Karen Harrist and husband Bill of South Hutchinson; a son-in-law, Gerald Baerg of Inman; a brother and sister-in-law, L.B. McGee and wife Beverly of Houston; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Joan Baerg.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with Pastor Timothy Conner officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with Newton Presbyterian Manor in care of the funeral home.
