Edmond 'Edie' Graves
Edmond "Edie" Graves, 91, 700 W. 10th, died Sunday (Dec. 26, 1999) at Newton Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 21, 1908, in Medford, Okla., to Peter and Eva (Hiebert) Graves. He married Elizabeth Neufeldt Oct. 12, 1933, in Buhler. She survives of Newton.
He was a member of Missionary Church in Dodge City and Newton before joining First Mennonite Church in Newton.
He worked for Safeway and Kroeger grocery store chains for 18 years. He also worked for Dickey Jewelry store for 20 years and had his own jewelry, watch and clock repair for 65 years.
He was raised in Goessel. He moved to Newton in 1944. He was a past member of the Mennonite 4,000 choir. He enjoyed singing with barbershop groups.
Other survivors include: four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one son, Walter D. Graves; and one brother, Ferd Graves.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rusty Bonham and pastoral assistant Marvin Ewert from First Mennonite Church in Newton officiating. Burial will be in the Restlawn Gardens of Memory in Newton.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday with family greeting friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established with First Mennonite Church and First Mennonite Church Caring Fund in care of the funeral home.
