Arthur J. Goering, 89, of North Newton, died Thursday (Dec. 30, 1999) at Newton Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 30, 1910, in McPherson County to John C. and Adina (Wedel) Goering. He married Amanda A. Goering March 18, 1931, in Moundridge. She preceded him in death May 19, 1992. He was a member of Faith Mennonite Church in Newton.

Survivors include: two daughters, Lela Mae Sawatzky of North Newton and Leona F. Gingerich of Middlebury, Ind.; two brothers, John W. Goering of Moundridge and Martin H. Goering of McPherson; two sisters, Lorene Stucky of McPherson and Lillie Cullar of North Lima, Ohio; and six grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Larry Lee Goering and Leonard Lee Goering; and one daughter, Wanita Joy Goering.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Faith Mennonite Church in Newton with Pastor Walter Friesen officiating. Burial will be in the Eden Mennonite Church Cemetery in rural Moundridge. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday with family greeting friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home. Memorials have been established with Kidron Bethel Village and Harvey County Offender and Victim Ministries in care of the funeral home.
