Lester F. 'Les' Stretcher
Lester F. "Les" Stretcher, 94, 200 S.W. 14th, died today (Dec. 21, 1999) at Friendly Acres Retirement Community in Newton.
He was born Dec. 19, 1905, in rural Aulne to Thomas N. and Mary (Clubine) Stretcher. He married Hazel Harper March 8, 1929, in Kansas City, Mo. She survives of Newton.
He retired from Skelly Oil Co. after 30 years. He was involved in construction and maintenance of gasoline service stations in the Midwest.
He attended grade schools around Marion and graduated from Marion High School. He lived in Mission and Shawnee from 1936 to 1968. After retirement he lived in McAllen, Texas, before they moved to Newton in 1985.
Other survivors include: one son, John Stretcher of Bucyrus; and one niece, Mary Valentine of Halstead.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Friendly Acres Chapel with Chaplain Pam Martinez from Friendly Acres Retirement Community officiating.
Memorials have been established with Friendly Acres Retirement Community in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
