Melinda Marie (Wilke) Koppes
Melinda Marie (Wilke) Koppes, 102, of North Newton, died Sunday (Jan. 2, 2000) at Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton.
She was born July 5, 1897, in Groveland to Gustav F. and Mary Elizabeth (Knackstedt) Wilke. She married Daniel Atlee Koppes Dec. 19, 1917, in Groveland. He preceded her in death Aug. 25, 1986.
She worked with her husband on their dairy farm near Newton. She had been a member of Bethel College Mennonite Church since 1918. She also was a member of the Mission Quilters of the church and she was a member of the Golden Circle Extension Unit of Harvey County, the 4-H and the Women's Association of Bethel College.
Survivors include two sons, Dean W. Koppes and Clinton Koppes, both of North Newton, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one sister, Lillie Smith, and one brother, Clarence Wilke.
Service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Dick Wilke, Norma Johnson and Malcolm Wenger officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established with Kidron Bethel Village, Melinda Koppes Memorial Fund for a Sarita lift in care of the funeral home.
