Zuercher, Ronald
Ronald L. Zuercher, 62, of Smithville, Mo., passed away on Thursday (Feb. 24, 2011).
He was born on May 3, 1948, in Hollywood, Calif., to Leslie and Elsie Gertrude (Zimmermann) Zuercher. Ron grew up in Benton, and in 1966, he graduated from Berean Academy in Elbing. He later received bachelor’s degrees from Grace University in Omaha, Neb., and Wichita State University. On April 14, 1979, he was united in marriage to Rebecca Ruth De Smet. After their marriage, they lived in Smithville where they made their home. Ron worked at Gospel Missionary Union/Avant Ministries in Kansas City for 35 years as a graphic designer and photographer. He was a member of Emanuel Bible Church in Smithville for 33 years.
Ron is survived by his wife, Becky of the home; children, David Zuercher and wife, Samantha, Sharon Zuercher, Anna Roberts and husband, Michael, Stephanie Zuercher and Jordan Zuercher; five grandchildren, Taylor, Owen, Hudson, Elise and baby boy Roberts; brother, Raymond Zuercher and wife, Janell; two nieces, Rachelle Clair and husband, Matt and Katelynn Zuercher; nephew, Jared Zuercher; father-in-law, Wally De Smet; and other relatives and many friends. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lynda Lambert; and mother-in-law, Mary Lou De Smet.
Visitation was Monday at First Baptist Church in Smithville. The funeral service is at 3 p.m. today at the church. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Swiss Church Cemetery in Whitewater. Donations may be made to Ron Zuercher Memorial Fund. Arrangements are by Hixson-Klein Funeral Home in Smithville.
