John Louis Dill, 85, of Newton died Tuesday (Sept. 26, 1989) at Newton Medical Center.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Draper-Cannon Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Alden Dick officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Born July 13, 1904, in Cherokee County, he was the son of Newman Grant and Tennie Tennessee (Tedlock) Dill. He married Florence Mae Ford May 6, 1931, at Medford, Okla. She survives. As a young man, Dill worked in a lead and zinc mine in Picher, Okla. He came to Newton in 1924 and was employed by what is now Cargill Flour Mill. In 1928, he was employed as a fireman for the A.T.S.F. Railroad. He was promoted to engineer in 1945, and was an engineer until his retirement in 1972.

Survivors include one son, Harold D. of Maryland Heights, Mo.; two sisters Lolas Ferriera of Dixon, Calif., and Marguriete Turley of Williams, Ore.; four granddaughters; and eight great-grandchildren.
