Netta C. (Jordan) Bair, 87, died Tuesday (Dec. 20, 2005) in Newton.


She was born April 2, 1918, to Ernest Grant and Ivy Allyn (Morgan) Jordan at the historic Morgan House in Peabody. She was the granddaughter of W.H. Morgan, founder of the Peabody Gazette newspaper. She moved with her parents as a baby to a farm in west Wichita at Harry and 119th Street West where she spent her first nine years. At age 9, she moved to Wichita with her parents to a house near Martinson and Maple near west Wichita where she attended Allison Intermediate and North High School. She had lived in Newton for 68 years after marrying Carson E. Bair Feb. 24, 1937, in Newton. He preceded her in death in June 1962.

She retired from Axtell Clinic after 20 years as a medical records transcriber/historian. She was active in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) in Newton. She had been a resident of the Newton Plaza Apartments for 25 years where she served as the resident assistant until four years ago.

Survivors include: sons, Charles (Sue) and Richard (Alice) of Wichita and James (Linda) of Valley Center; grandchildren, Bill (Laura) Bair, Bob (Amanda) Bair, Matthew Bair, Andrea (Jeremy) Ketner of Wichita, Stephanie (Dave) Ruedy of Maize, Debra (Jerry) Hackney and Roberta (Larry) Eubanks of Sedgwick; a brother, Ernest A. Jordan of Newton; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by: a sister, Rebecca A. Bair; and a brother, William.

Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Newton.

Memorials have been established with the Morgan House in Peabody in care of the funeral home.
