Marsh, Uncle Davy

The Burrton Free-Lance

Uncle Davy Marsh was killed by Santa Fe Passenger train No. 568 east bound, on the first crossing west of Burrton, at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon (June 6, 1911). The trainmen were the only witnesses to the accident. They state that Mr. Marsh started to drive across the track directly in front of the approaching train. He evidently became confused on seeing the train and stopped his horse with the buggy standing on the track. The train struck the buggy and knocked it fifty feet or more beyond the crossing. As soon as the engine could be stopped the trainmen picked Mr. Marsh up and returned to the depot with him. He was still alive when picked up but did not regain consciousness. Besides receiving internal injuries his neck and right arm were broken.

The horse was not touched by the train and escaped uninjured.

Mr. Marsh was 87 years of age at the time of his death. He was an old soldier, being a member of the local G.A.R. post. That organization had charge of his funeral services which were held at the Christian Church yesterday afternoon. He is survivied by hiw widow, one son, and two daughters.
