Dorothy C. (Botterweck) Koeneman, 98, passed away on Wednesday (April 20, 2011).
Dorothy Christine Botterweck, the daughter of Joseph and Christine Botterweck, was born on Aug. 1, 1912, in Elbing.
She married Earl H. Koeneman on Aug. 1, 1935, in Newton. He passed away on March 15, 1999.
Mrs. Koeneman was born and raised in Harvey County. She and her husband farmed in the Towanda/Benton area for 18 years before returning to Newton in 1958, where she resided until her death.
Dorothy was a homemaker, wife and mother. She was a member of First United Church of Christ of Newton.
Mrs. Koeneman is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Joyce Thomas and husband, Delbert of Mount Pleasant, Texas, Sylvia Barb and husband, Veryl of Emporia, and Priscilla Musser and husband, Alvin of Newton; grandchildren, Derrick Barb, Rechelle (Musser) Ochsner, Christine (Musser) Wilkes, Anthony Thomas and Tiffany Nickel; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; grandsons, Corey Nickel, Gregory A. Barb and Earl Thomas; and six brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. Family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First United Church of Christ in Newton. Pastor Jerry Scribner will officiate.
A graveside committal service will be conducted prior to the memorial service at 10 a.m. in Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials have been set up for: the Newton Public Library, 720 N. Oak St., Newton, KS 67114; First United Church of Christ, 210 E. Fourth St., Newton, KS 67114; and Newton Presbyterian Manor, 1200 E. Seventh St., Newton, KS 67114.
