Lorene E. Woelk, 89, died Monday (Jan. 18, 2010) at Kidron Bethel Healthcare in North Newton.
She was born Aug. 2, 1920, in Goessel to John and Justina (Enz) Reimer.
On May 27, 1941, she married Rudy Woelk at Tabor Mennonite Church in rural Goessel.
They were married for 63 years prior to his death on March 10, 2004.
Lorene was a charter member of the Faith Mennonite Church in Newton. She was a devoted mother and homemaker. She also worked in the Harvey County Clerk's office and Regier Loan and Abstract for many years.
She was an excellent seamstress and cook.
She also enjoyed quilting and needlework, reading, as well as volunteer work in Faith Mennonite Church.
Her family and friends still enjoy the many family recipes Lorene made throughout the years.
She is survived by son, Jon and Suzie Woelk of Newton; daughters, Jan and Steven Kukie of Longmont, Colo., Judy and Howard Schrag of Newton; and sister, Betty Schmidt of Goessel; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and four infant children.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Faith Mennonite Church with pastor Gordon Smith officiating.
A graveside service will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Faith Mennonite Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in care of the funeral home.
