Franz, Olga



Olga Franz, 92, died Sunday (July 16, 2006) at Newton Presbyterian Manor.
She was born June 9, 1914, to Peter B. and Helen (Shroeder) Woelk in Goessel. She married Walter W. Franz on Sept. 22, 1937, at Tabor Mennonite Church in Goessel. He preceded her in death Aug. 7, 1973.

Olga was a homemaker and physical therapy aide at Bethel Deaconess Hospital. She was a member of First Mennonite Church in Newton, Tri-W Club and the Ladies Sewing Circle. Olga volunteered at Bethel Hospital, enjoyed all sports, playing bridge, quilting and handwork and reading.

Survivors include: a son, Kenneth Franz of Newton and Bette J. Rhine of Newton; a sister, Dora Penner of Beatrice, Neb.; a sister-in-law, Lorene Woelk of North Newton; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by: brothers, Rudolph Woelk and Herb Woelk; and a sister, Elma Frey.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8:30 at Petersen Funeral Home.

Due to an air conditioning failure at First Mennonite Church, service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Community Church with Pastor David Reimer officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with First Mennonite Church Caring Place in care of the funeral home
