Obituary

Fern I. Walters, 85, passed away Thursday (March 20, 2008) at Kansas Christian Home in Newton. She was born Dec. 14, 1922, in Peabody to Edward and Ada (Guyot) Uphoff. They preceded her in death.

She married Roy Walters, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 1982.

Fern enjoyed caring for and rescuing animals. She liked to help her friends and neighbors. Fern greatly enjoyed spending time with her loving friends and family.

Survivors include sons, Terry Walters of Newton, Jim and Marilyn Cox of Peabody, and Robert and Jean Cox of Pontiac, Mich.; daughter, Donna and Pete Estrada of Hutchinson; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Wayne Graham officiating.

Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
