Williams, Warner

Warner G. "Bill" Williams, 79, died Saturday (Aug. 13, 2005) at Newton Medical Center.
He was born May 9, 1926, to Ursula (Bodle) and James Edward Williams in Shubuta, Miss. They preceded him in death. He attended high school at Beat Four High School in Waynesboro, Miss.

Bill enlisted in the United States Navy April 24, 1944. He was later stationed at the Newton Air Station where he met his future wife, Dorothy. They were married Nov. 26, 1945, in Newton.

After his separation from the Naval Service, he was employed with the Santa Fe Railroad for 39 years before retiring June 1, 1988.

Bill was a charter member of Meridian Baptist Church and also served as a deacon.

He enjoyed many hobbies throughout his lifetime. He enjoyed the outdoors and could often be found gardening and tree trimming. He often did pick-up and delivery for Sports and Imports in Newton. He loved his family dearly and also enjoyed helping others.

Survivors (Private)

He also was preceded in death by: brothers, John, Ward, Everett, Thadis, Velpo, Curtis, Walter Ray, James Edward and E.W.; and a sister, Emma Katherine Williams.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Meridian Baptist Church with Pastor Jerroll Martens officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
