Isabelle was born in Trenton, Kentucky, Feb. 12, 1861, and left for her heavenly home Friday May 18, 1934 at 1:45 o'clock. She was 73 years, 3 months and 6 days old. She was united in marriage to Minor Underwood May 17, 1873, Todd county, Kentucky and moved to Newton, 54 years ago. To this union were born 11 children. Her husband and seven children preceded her in death.
She accepted Christ in Kentucky and was a charter member of the Second Baptist church of this city. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and friend to all. She delighted in making others happy.
She never complained, but bore her suffering with patience and fortitude. After admonishing her faithful children to continue to be loving and loyal to each other, she said:"My trails have been many, my tribulations great; I am so tired, but will soon see Jesus."
Mrs. Underwood leaves to mourn her passing four faithful daughters, Mrs. Petha Jackson of Hutchinson, Miss Alta Underwood and Mrs. Elsie Oliver of Wichita, And Mrs. Daisy Phoenix who made her home with her; four sons-in-law, six grandchildren, Mrs. Ruth Strader of Lyons, Morris Underwood, Isabelle, Wilma, Billy and Ralph Phoenix of the home.
FUNERAL SERVICES
Numerous friends of Mrs. Underwood, several from Wichita and Hutchinson, attended the funeral services Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Second Baptist church. Rev. L. W. Robinson officiated, having the assistance of Rev. J. W. Hayes of Wichita. Music was furnished by the church choir.
Casket bearers were D. D. Skelton, H. W. Lewis, G. O. Cot, R. D. Warfield, R. W. Williams and M. Linly. Interment was made in the family lot in Greenwood cemetery, beside Mrs. Underwood's husband.
